Hey I've been interested in the whole concert photographer stuff and I was wondering how to get started, or how I could become a really good concert photographer and work with professional musicians one day??? Any tips
Hey! I’m sorry this took so long for me to answer. I’m really good at getting distracted from things sometimes, haha. But basically the best way to go about it is to work hard, make connections, and never sell yourself short. Most important is knowing your craft. I don’t understand why people think the life of a concert photographer is glamorous and fantastic - it isn’t. Being crammed in a tight photo pit with upwards of 20 other photographers with three songs to shoot, you need to master composing an image and doing it fast. You can start out whenever you’d like but the most important part is being skilled enough to take on the challenge. Start small. Check out some local shows, take some pictures, introduce yourself. Make yourself known, because if people see good work with your name on it they’ll remember it. Once you have a solid portfolio built up you can get in contact with music zines, blogs, and magazines, reaching out asking if they’re looking for photography contributions. Provide examples of your work. It’s difficult to get into bigger tours to shoot unless you’re on assignment for a publication, you’re assigned to cover it for that magazine. It takes time. We all started out god-awful, but everyone improves. The most important tip I can give you is just to be talented at taking photos. It takes work and it isn’t for everyone. One step at a time.
Your photography is incredible. Seriously I wish you nothing but the best in what you do. Keep up the great work!
ahhh thank you! Hearing something like this out of nowhere completely rules. :)))
